Starling Cybernetics

Protect Your Penumbra Validator From The Weather

Today, in advance of the Penumbra mainnet, Starling Cybernetics is pleased to announce the initial alpha prerelease of Umbrella, a tool to monitor the uptime of an active Penumbra validator.

Umbrella monitors on-chain uptime for one or several Penumbra validators. It connects on-demand to one or more specified Penumbra nodes, picking data from the node with the highest height, and exports Prometheus metrics which can then be visualized using Grafana. Operators can set alerts within these tools so they always know whether their validator is operational.

This release should be considered provisional: Umbrella works well today, but it might still have bugs – if you find any, or if you'd like to see a feature implemented, please file an issue. We aim to meet the needs of our fellow validators by building tooling others can rely on.

Swiftly onwards to mainnet,
